Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string (hash) from your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. After approval, your profile picture is visible publicly with your comment.

Media

If you upload images, avoid embedding location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can extract location data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies. These last for one year.

Visiting our login page sets a temporary cookie to check browser compatibility. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Logging in sets cookies for login info and screen preferences. Login cookies last two days, screen options one year. “Remember Me” extends login to two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

Editing or publishing an article saves an additional cookie indicating the post ID. It expires after one day and contains no personal data.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles). Such content behaves as if you visited the other site directly.

These sites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction, especially if you’re logged in to their site.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Comments and metadata are retained indefinitely to recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.

For registered users (if any), we store the personal info in their profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their info anytime (except username). Admins can also view and edit that info.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data. You can also request deletion of your data, except for data we must keep for legal, administrative, or security reasons.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
